Ships :: Logos Hope Director Decio De Carvalho (Brazil) and his wife Elba (Puerto Rico)

Welcoming the new director on board Logos Hope

Dominica :: Edward David (Malaysia) and Heather David (UK) handover to and welcome Decio De Carvalho (Brazil) and his wife Elba (Puerto Rico) to the director’s role on board Logos Hope.

With gratitude for the faithful service of Director, Edward David (Malaysia) and his wife, Heather David (UK) which has now come to a close, Logos Hope crewmembers are excited to welcome Decio De Carvalho (Brazil) and his wife Elba (Puerto Rico) as Decio takes on the director’s role.

Beginning a new season

For both Decio and Elba, their history with OM’s Ship Ministry dates back to Logos and Doulos. Serving in a variety of roles within the Ships Ministry, as well as within the broader context of OM around the world, Decio has spent 22 years involved with OM and Elba, 20.

They met as a couple in Brazil and married in the year of 1990. Since then, they have moved with their family around the world, meeting needs wherever God led them.

In the year of 2020, the couple moved to Spain to work on establishing a network care facility for Latin Americans. When the time came to handover the work, Decio and Elba decided that they’d rather let God show them their next steps. They listed all their passions and OM’s Ship Ministry was on this list.

Not long after, they received the call inviting them back to the Ships Ministry. “We weren’t thinking of any big responsibility, that was not our plan or expectation,” Decio shared. “It felt like God was speaking, but it also felt that it was bigger than us.”

Elba continued, “We are very thankful and humble that the Lord answered this desire that we had.”

Reflecting on the past season

Looking back, the David couple can acknowledge the many ways they felt God teaching them during their time on board.

“It’s been a good three years,” Edward reflected. “Not easy, but we’ve really enjoyed it… Serving as the managing director on board Logos Hope has stretched me beyond what I thought I was capable of. It’s deepened my dependence on God and I would say that process has also shaped my character.”

For Heather, seeing God’s provision really stood out. “We’ve seen His provision in situations where it was like ‘hands-off.’ There’s nothing we can do. We’ll pray, we’ll trust and we’ll see what God does. For me, that’s really special,” she says.

Now ready for their next season, Edward and Heather are excited to continue trusting in God, ready to continue learning and are planning to remain with OM’s Ships Ministry.

A warm welcome

Decio and Elba arrived on board the vessel in July of 2025 in Roseau, Dominica and are inspired for what is to come. They have hearts to connect with young people as well as the older adults, uniting generations for God’s Kingdom.

Edward emphasised, “They’re not stepping into our shoes. They are stepping into the role God has prepared for them.”

Thank you for supporting OM’s ships by keeping each of these couples in your prayers during their times of transition. Thank God for the time and service Edward and Heather dedicated to Logos Hope and join us in prayer for wisdom as Decio and Elba embark upon this new journey.
