In one Discovery Bible study group, participants saw a woman healed from an affliction that had been hindering her for 20 years.
After hearing about the Discovery Bible Study (DBS) teaching method, Rebeka*, a full-time OM finance worker in Bangladesh, decided to start a group among some women in her local area.
In April 2024, Rebeka met with ten women who were committed to gathering every Saturday for one year. None of the women were Jesus followers but they all expressed interest in learning from the Bible. After a few weeks, Rebeka noticed that some of the women were very quiet, not sharing prayers and not participating much in the group discussions. She continued to encourage them to share their prayer or praise points if they had any. One meeting, Mukti*, held up both of her hands and explained that she had been suffering from a skin illness for the last 20 years. She couldn’t use her hands to help her family, felt ashamed of them and experienced pain when touching things such as warm water. Explaining that she had tried many medications but could not find relief from her suffering, she asked the group for prayer.
Rebeka touched Mukti's hands and prayed in the name of Jesus. The next week, Mukti showed her hands to the group again and said she felt much better than before! She asked Rebeka to pray again. Before praying, Rebeka shared the story from the Bible of the woman who had suffered from bleeding for 12 years and was healed because of her faith. Rebeka asked Mukti if she believed in Jesus and had faith that He could heal her. Mukti said: "Yes, I believe in Jesus as a healer." Rebeka prayed for her again in Jesus' name.
When Mukti came to the next meeting, she was happy and asked for prayers for her full recovery. Now, she can work using her hands. Other women in the DBS group witnessed Mukti's healing and began to ask for prayers in Jesus' name, as some of them were going through difficult times and had prayer requests for their families.
Rebeka is happy to lead a DBS group where women are experiencing the power of prayer in Jesus' name.
Please pray that Rebeka can maintain her full-time finance work and continue meeting with the DBS group. Pray for the 20 DBS groups started in four districts: that seekers –– both men and women –– can grow in faith and receive Jesus through these groups. Pray for more people to be trained to share the good news with many in Bangladesh, as 99 per cent of the population has never had the chance to know about Jesus.
